President's Message
Hardeep Gill, 5th dan

I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to the website of Gima-ha Shotokan-ryu Karate Association. Our non-contact, traditional Japanese-style of karate, has a long history with roots to the original formation of Shotokan Karate in Okinawa, Japan.
Our association strives to follow the principles that were first developed by Master Makoto Gima whom believed that through regular ongoing practice, karate builds character, teaches patience and self-confidence, and fosters respect for others. During my 31 years of karate training, I have indeed witnessed many students develop these traits, and in some cases, some have overcome other physical limitations as a result of training.
Students of all ages and levels of fitness can benefit from our classes and while we adhere to the traditions, our affiliation with Karate BC, Karate Canada and Sport BC ensures that instructors and students have access to innovative training techniques and information that can help with a student’s development beyond the dojo.
Gima-ha is growing internationally with affiliated dojos in Japan, Germany, Norway, U.K., Sri Lanka, and India. Students, who have the opportunity to travel to these regions either with their family or as a member of an organized club trip, can gain intercultural exposure and build new friendships through the common bond of karate. Like Karate, these can be life-long friendships.
