Gima-ha Shotokan-ryu is a traditional Japanese karate style with roots to the original Shotokan School of Karate that sport beting was first introduced to Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi. Gima-ha in Canada, has produced a number top-level karate students, many of whom have competed at the provincial and national level; the World Karate Championships and Pan-Am games.
Our dojos are located in Abbotsford, Aldergrove, Chilliwack, and White Rock, BC, with affiliated dojos in Japan, U.K., Germany, India, Norway and most recently Sri Lanka. The Canadian honbu (head) dojo, is located in White Rock, BC under the direction of Canadian Gima-ha organization chief instructor, Shihan Takayuki Sameshima, a 8th degree (dan), provincial coach for nationals (1980-85), national coach (1982-88) for North American Pan-American, Commonwealth and world championships. The 2016 Annual Gima-ha Shiai which was held Saturday May 14 at Trinity Western sport bet tz University, in Langley, was a tremendous success and fun was had by all. The Shiai is open to all members and levels. Tentative date for 2017 is Saturday May 6. Please stay tuned for date confirmation and details. Congratulations! Summer camp 2016 Sensei Steven Edwards, from our Gima-ha affiliated club in England, was our Special Guest Instructor for the 2016 Summer Camp which was held July 8-10 at Trinity Western University in Langley.
