Welcome to Gima-ha Karate
Gima-ha Shotokan-ryu is a traditional Japanese karate style with roots to the original Shotokan School of Karate that was first introduced to Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi. Gima-ha in Canada, has produced a number top-level karate students, many of whom have competed at the provincial and national level; the World Karate Championships and Pan-Am games.
Our dojos are located in Abbotsford, Aldergrove, Chilliwack, and White Rock, BC, with affiliated dojos in Japan, U.K., Germany, India, Norway and most recently Sri Lanka.
The Canadian honbu (head) dojo, is located in White Rock, BC under the direction of Canadian Gima-ha organization chief instructor, Shihan Takayuki Sameshima, a 8th degree (dan), provincial coach for nationals (1980-85), national coach (1982-88) for North American Pan-American, Commonwealth and world championships.

Proceeds from these events went to the Charity for East Japan Earthquake Fund.

Kobudo - Bukai news
Hardeep Gill passed Nidan level at Kobudo grading which was held July 23, 2016
In 2015, Ben Berkiw of the ShobuKai ( Chilliwack ) Karate club passed Shodan level, Paul Sexton and Nina Krack both passed 3rd Kyu. Congratulations to all of you.

Congratulations, Erika Ezaki!
Erika from the White Rock Dojo receives her Official's Qualifications Certificate from Sensei Paul Sexton. Erika is now a Provincial Judge for Kata and a Regional Referee for Kumite. These designations will allow her to Officiate at Tournaments!
2017 Annual Gima Ha Shiai
The 2017 Annual Gima-ha Shiai will be held Saturday May 6 from 8 am - 4 pm at Yorkson Creek Middle School in Walnut Grove, Langley - address is 20686-84 Ave. The Shiai is open to all members and levels.

Karate In Olympics
August 3, 2016
The IOC ( International Olympic Committee ) has approved Karate to be in the Olympic Games, beginning with the 2020 Games in Tokyo, Japan.
